"My work has grown to be more than paint on canvas. It's evolved to include pattern design and making textile products by hand."
Ashley Cecil is a Pittsburgh-based artist and illustrator specializing in paintings of flora and fauna. Ashley found her artistic niche while in living in London and earning her master’s degree at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art. While in London, she immersed herself in museum collections of nature-inspired textile patterns. Her intricate style, reminiscent of European tapestries and wallpapers, is refreshingly modern. She paints from live observation of wildlife at institutions like the National Aviary, and these experiences shape her dynamic product lines.
More than paint on canvas, Ashley’s fine art and designs are a labor of love. She carefully layers painting and drawing to create her detailed and vivid imagery. With the launch of her collection of nature-themed home decor and fashion accessories, she swaps her paintbrush for design software to translate her fine art to stylish motifs for her boldly patterned textiles.
As she grows her range of home decor to include wall coverings, Ashley continues to create one-of-a-kind artwork and custom commissions. Ashley’s clients include Oxfam America, Early Times Bourbon, and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. Inspired by her recent artist residency at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and the Powdermill Avian Research Center, and in partnership with BirdSafe Pittsburgh, Ashley’s latest designs are created with an eye toward environmental stewardship.
