Jowdy Studio produces contemporary tableware and home decor. Driven by the creative process, studio founder Andrew Jowdy “AJ” Collins continues to explore his sculptural interests while developing functional and decorative pieces. Influenced by everyday items and the environment, AJ’s designs are familiar, yet imaginative. He began making ceramics in 1999 in the North Carolina mountains while studying at the Penland School of Crafts. After working and living around the globe, Jowdy Studio was established in 2017 and is rapidly growing, partnering with restaurants and coffee boutiques to produce full lines of tableware, and continuously developing new home decor.
AJ uses tradition wheel-throwing, slab, and slip-casting techniques to create his functional and striking porcelain work. He carves, inlays, and glazes many of his pieces with crisp textures and stark colors. These details bring verve to tabletops and living rooms, and they virtually call out to be handled. The result emerges as a collection of subtlety elegant pieces, each visually engaging and a pleasure to use every day.
As Jowdy Studio continues to develop bespoke wares for restaurants and coffee specialists, he also invites new relationships with regional and national retailers.
