Site Specific Installations
Building Bytes offers custom designed, fabricated, and installed interior and interior wall screens made from 3D printed ceramic bricks. These modern and elegant architectural products make compelling decorative and functional structures. Designer and fabricator, Brian Peters has been recognized by 2014 Architect Magazine’s R+D Awards and the 2015 Fast Company Innovation by Design Awards for his research and accomplishments with this cutting-edge design.
Building Bytes balances traditional craftsmanship and emerging technology. Product designs are sketched by hand, digitally modeled, and fabricated using custom-built 3D printers. Every brick design is printed with wet clay. Despite the digital process, the earthen material provides variations from piece to piece. Each product is then dried, kiln fired, glazed, and re-fired by hand.
Building Bytes was commissioned to create a site-specific interior installation in downtown Akron, OH. The intricate pattern of the piece, which consists of 100 3D printed ceramic bricks, is inspired by the 1920’s Art Deco building in which it is housed.
